Spanish Tortilla at Cabo Roig Tapas Bar

If you are visiting Cabo Roig on the Costa Blanca, Spain this year, you must take an evening out to visit the new Tapas Bar which has opened in place of the Bombay Spice Indian restaurant. Instead of eating out in the usual English pubs, Irish bars or Chinese restaurant you should at least try some traditional Spanish food during your stay. As tapas meals are a chance to sample small portions of various Spanish specialities, this restaurant gives you a good opportunity to test out your palate for some Spanish food, if you do not wish to be too experimental you could start out with a traditional Spanish tortilla which a like a thick pancake made with potato and onion, absolutely delicious with salad and eaten either hot or cold. The Tapas restaurant is on the sea side of the strip in Cabo Roig close to Bar Med and Puccinis, it is well used by the Spanish visitors to Cabo Roig as well as those of other nationalities who like to try something a little different. Cabo Roig is situated on the Orihuela Costa section of the Costa Blanca around 45 minutes drive from Alicante airport. So if you would like to try a tortilla, a traditional Spanish seafood dish or just bread with Allioli then head for the Tapas Bar in beautiful Cabo Roig.

Barnstaple and Braunton Devon

Two Devon towns which both have significant claims to fame are Barnstaple and Braunton located close to each other on the North Devon coast. Barnstaple is claimed to be the United Kingdom’s oldest borough, having its own mint even before the invasion of Britain by the Normans. A town which grew around the wool trade, Barnstaple was established on the River Taw’s lowest crossing point. To the north-west of Barnstaple, Braunton claims to be the biggest village in the United Kingdom, though many would call it a small town with its resident population of 7,500. Another ancient settlement, Braunton was mentioned in the Domesday Book and was possible founded by St Brannock, a missionary who crossed the Bristol Channel in the 6th century AD. Both towns attract visitors for various reasons and the North Devon coast sees a large influx of tourists during the summer months due to the fine weather conditions and the attractive coastline. Lying to the west of Greater London on the A4 trunk road, the town and borough of Slough was formerly part of Buckinghamshire but now comes under the county of Berkshire. With a population of around 117,000 and an area of some thirteen square miles Slough lies north of the River Thames and the town of Windsor, with the tiny village of Eton and its famous college sandwiched between the two. Though its modern day appearance does not suggest any significant history, Slough was actually a settlement (albeit a small one) way back in the 13th century when it was variously known as Slo, Slowe, Sloo, Slow and Le Slowe. Growing later as a town mostly due to the stagecoach trade, Slough is now a large industrial town. Becoming a local government area only in 1863, Slough was incorportated into Berkshire in the 1974 reshuffle. Experiencing a typical south England climate, Slough averages 45mm of rain monthly and has its best weather in the period May to September.

A Norfolk seaside town which is especially renowned for its crab fishing industry, Cromer has a population of 7,749 and a history stretching back many centuries. Though not named as such in the Domesday Book (1086), Cromer was most likely the settlement which was named as Shipden Juxta Felbrigg, another Shipden named in the Domesday Book now lies under the sea about a quarter of a mile from the present Cromer Pier.  The lifeboat station in Cromer was first installed in 1804 and a new one at the end of the pier was built in the 1920’s. These days Cromer is a lively holiday resort with a busy pier and a nice sandy beach, when the weather is good it has the appearance of a typical British seaside resort, though the North Sea coastal resorts can experience some inclement weather, as those who have visited will know. Area of interest around Cromer include the market town of North Walsham, which was a bustling settlement even back in Anglo Saxon times and Sheringham, another of Norfolk’s north coast seaside resorts.
