Mahon Menorca

The elegant town of Mahon is the capital of the Balearic Island of Menorca, it is renowned for having one of the best natural harbours in the world, this made it an attractive target for the British Navy, who took the town and the island in 1708, and made Mahon their main port in the Mediterranean. Mahon today is a more peaceful place and is an attractive tourist destination, with many places of interest and a great range of facilities, you are more likely to see a luxury yacht in the harbour these days than a warship although it is still a working port. The town enjoys a wonderful climate and the weather in Mahon is pleasant all year round attracting thousands of visitors both during the hot summer months and also during the agreeable winter months. Lake Como ItalyThe 3rd largest lake in the European country of Italy, Lake Como is also one of the deepest lakes on the continent reaching depths of over 400 metres in places. A desirable holiday retreat for wealthy people since Roman times, Lake Como is peppered with stunning luxury villas and palaces owned by aristocrats, film stars and the rich in general. Also popular as a tourist destination the area benefits from a great climate with Lake Como weather being typically Mediterranean, with warm summers and mild winters, aided by heat from the large volume of water contained in the lake. Located in the Lombardy region of northern Italy, Lake Como is quite close to Italy’s border with Switzerland and has some historic and interesting cities lying on its banks. Lake Como Map.

Carp Fishing in Spain

Filed under: Costa Blanca, Spain — Tags: , — needahand @ 10:59 am

Carp Fishing in SpainToday’s picture is of us fishing at the Embalse de Pedrera reservoir located near to Torremendo just inland from the Costa Blanca coastline of Spain. We took part in an angling safari last August to try out the local carp fishing which is said to be good. In the event although we had a good day out the fish weren’t really biting and only 2 small carp were caught, one by myself and one by Nathian, David (featured in the photo) unfortunately went fishless. The cost of the angling safaris are 70 euros per person (they picked us up from Cabo Roig), which I think is reasonable although we would have liked to have caught more fish and perhaps have tried some different baits and methods, but as they say “that’s fishing”.
