Sucina Murcia

A small village in the Murcia region of Spain, Sucina is close to Murcia’s border with Alicante, so it could be considered to be part of either the Costa Blanca or Costa Calida. Sucina has a population of around a thousand, a population which is now rising (due to tourism) where it was previously falling due to youngsters moving away to more prosperous areas. Sucina is handy for the beaches of the Mar Menor and also those of the Orihuela Costa, so although it is an inland village, a beach is never far away. Golf is also important for Sucina with a course and country club near to the village.

Orihuela Costa Coastline Near Playa Flamenca

Orihuela Costa Resorts Cabo Roig and Playa Flamenca – There are many of you who probably never have heard of the Orihuela Costa, while there are other who take their holidays there every year. For those of you who don’t know where it is, I will explain. In the southern area of the Costa Blanca region, within the province of Alicante, the Orihuela Costa is a section of coast which belongs to the inland town of Orihuela (as is the habit in Spain of providing inland towns with a section of coast that they administer). Now this developed later than other better known areas of the Costa Blanca, such as Benidorm, which started much earlier, in fact the Orihuela Costa has mostly developed over the last 20 years or so, Playa Flamenca was begun in the early 1970’s by Dutch property developers, and is a recent resort with little history. On the reverse of this, Cabo Roig has some history, and its ancient watchtower displays evidence of this in the most powerful way, as it has existed for many centuries, in fact way back when pirates sailed these seas. Both resorts have become popular as holiday home locations and many Brits and Irish have settled permanently there (together with Germans and Scandinavians among others). I will be writing more about these resorts shortly.

Lo Pagan Mud Baths

Lo Pagan Mud Baths

Great places to visit – the healing mud baths of Lo Pagan. If you are visiting the Costa Calida, in the Murcia region of Spain this year you should take time out to visit the famous healing mud baths at Lo Pagan – completely free for visitors to use, these well laid-out mud baths include wooden platform areas with steps for elderly and disabled visitors. The hot healing mud is renowned for its healing properties and can be very helpful for a variety of ailments and skin complaints. To get to Lo Pagan follow the N-332 from Torevieja or the Orihuela Costa and turn off just before San Pedro del Pinatar, by the roundabout with the little boat, Lo Pagan is clearly signposted. Get there early to get parking nearby, it can get pretty busy in summer time and parking spaces are limited close to the beach, though there is plenty of parking before you get to the beach.

Villamartin Map – Orihuela Costa – Spain: Here’s a map of Villamartin that you can use for your visit to the residential area and golf course on the Costa Blanca, Spain. Print this Villamartin map out and bring it with you, so you can find your way around when you get there.

You can read a guide to Villamartin here: http://www.villamartin.my-costa-blanca.co.uk/

Villamartin Costa Blanca Spain

Villamartin Golf Course

Villamartin Golf Course

One of the most popular areas of the southern Costa Blanca, Villamartin is actually on the part of the coast that is known as the Orihuela Costa, which is the coastal region for the city of Orihuela which is about 19 kilometres inland from the sea. Developing around a top class golf course the urbanization of Villamartin has grown and grown over the last 20 years or so and now covers a significant area, joining Villamartin with surrounding urbanizations and towns, such as Los Dolses, Playa Flamenca, La Zenia and San Miguel de Salinas. The property boom in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s saw thousands of UK and International buyers purchasing holiday homes in Villamartin and many even choosing to settle permanently in the area. The financial crisis of the last 3 years has caused many to reconsider their position and many hundreds have subsequently sold or are trying to sell their properties and return to the UK. There is currently a glut of properties available to buy in Villamartin and it is a great time for investors, with many properties being half the price they were at their peak (or even less in some cases). For those wanting to holiday in the area, there is also a wealth of rental properties, and with so many available you can always find cheap villas and apartments to rent in Villamartin and the surrounding urbanizations. What is the attraction of Villamartin, you may well ask, well the excellent golf course would be a big plus for those interested in this sport, the proximity to the beaches and resorts of the Orihuela Costa would be another tick in its favour, the wonderful weather conditions are also a big attraction, along with the excellent facilities and entertainment possibilities, especially at the popular Villamartin Plaza, so there are plenty of reasons to visit Villamartin some time soon . Villamartin is approximately twenty five minutes drive from San Javier airport, and is in the Alicante province of Spain.

Spanish Tortilla at Cabo Roig Tapas Bar

If you are visiting Cabo Roig on the Costa Blanca, Spain this year, you must take an evening out to visit the new Tapas Bar which has opened in place of the Bombay Spice Indian restaurant. Instead of eating out in the usual English pubs, Irish bars or Chinese restaurant you should at least try some traditional Spanish food during your stay. As tapas meals are a chance to sample small portions of various Spanish specialities, this restaurant gives you a good opportunity to test out your palate for some Spanish food, if you do not wish to be too experimental you could start out with a traditional Spanish tortilla which a like a thick pancake made with potato and onion, absolutely delicious with salad and eaten either hot or cold. The Tapas restaurant is on the sea side of the strip in Cabo Roig close to Bar Med and Puccinis, it is well used by the Spanish visitors to Cabo Roig as well as those of other nationalities who like to try something a little different. Cabo Roig is situated on the Orihuela Costa section of the Costa Blanca around 45 minutes drive from Alicante airport. So if you would like to try a tortilla, a traditional Spanish seafood dish or just bread with Allioli then head for the Tapas Bar in beautiful Cabo Roig.
