Polished Concrete Flooring

Polished Concrete Flooring: A flooring option which most people associate with warehouses, galleries and department stores, polished concrete is nowadays making inroads into the domestic flooring market. It has a number of advantages over traditional flooring techniques and although you might not at first think so, it is good for the environment. This is because most properties already have a solid concrete base (foundation), so there is no need for additional expensive flooring materials which will only last a few years and then need replacing. Concrete will endure for many years and it is thought by many that a properly treated polished concrete floor should last upwards of 100 years, making it by far the most long-lasting form of flooring available today. It is also cost-effective because the main materials are already in place and once done, it will never need replacing and in many cases not even need to be repaired as this flooring is “tough”.

There are a wide range of colours and finishes that can be applied to polished concrete and it can be made to look like pretty much any other type of flooring, from wooden plank imprints to complex marble-like colouring processes. The obvious and most common look of polished concrete is the ubiquitous “wet” look, with a highly polished, glossy surface that looks like you could eat your lunch off it.

Easy to clean and maintain, polished concrete is going to become much more accepted as a domestic flooring choice in the next few years, so if you are planning to have a new floor in your home or office, you could do little better than to explore the possibilities of a polished concrete floor.
