Plumber or Heating Engineer? – When you have some plumbing work that needs doing in your home you might at times be a bit confused as to who you should call in to look at the job. Especially when the work involves gas appliances or your central heating system. Generally speaking when you need work doing on your central heating system (in particular your gas boiler) you will need to call on the services of a heating engineer, but more importantly one who is Gas Safe Registered. If you have not used such a tradesman in recent years you might get a bit confused as these specialist tradesmen used to be called Corgi Registered but this was changed to Gas Safe in 2009. That is not to say you cannot call in a regular plumber for this type of work since many who simply call themselves plumbers have still gained Gas Safe registration, because if they do not do this them they are no longer qualified to work on gas systems or appliances. Have Some Coving Fitted – If the rooms of your house are looking a bit tired and drab you might want to consider having some coving fitted to give your rooms a bit of a lift by adding some decorative and attractive features. If you decide to use some of the cheaper polystyrene or polymer coving that is readily available at DIY stores, you might be able to do this job yourself if you are that way inclined, but even using this readily prepared coving with corner sets included, you might find that it is a bit tricky once you get started. So you might need to call on the services of a specialist coving fitter to either do the job from scratch or finish off you feeble attempts at the project. If you already have coving installed, it will be something of a bigger job to remove all the old coving, clean up the walls and ceilings, and cut and fit the new coving. You Might Need a Plumber – While there are quite a few plumbing related tasks that you can do yourself around the house, there will inevitable come a time when you need to call in a qualified plumber, especially if the job has anything to do with gas in which case you will not only need a plumber but also a Gas Safe registered one, who has all the necessary qualifications to work with gas and give certifications that the work has been done correctly. Among the jobs that you might try for yourself (assuming that you are pretty useful with your hands), are changing tap washers to stop those pesky dripping taps that have been driving you mad for months, bleeding a radiator when your heating system is just not doing its job, and clearing a blocked drain or toilet, which you might need to buy some simple tools to complete.
